Staff were super nice and available practically 24/7 at the front desk. Room was clean when I arrived and they provided fresh sheets and bedding along with a towel. The room that I stayed in also had a sink which was convenient. The bunk beds were about what I expected. Comfortable, but if you're over 6'1" its gonna feel a bit small lengthwise. The location is exceptional. Ocean Beach is a really cool area to explore and you are less than a 5 minute walk from the water! Wi-Fi was good, showers were nice, and they have some well-kept common areas which I appreciated. Didn't try the breakfast, but they do serve it from 7-9am which is a neat bonus. Overall, a really good experience having never stayed at a hostel before! Would recommend!

Thoughtful collection of amenities available, staff were helpful, kind and considerate towards all guests and did a good job of managing the communal areas. Loved that there were surfboards to hire, easily the cheapest rates on ocean beach. It was great that they had beach chairs, ice boxes and beach towels to borrow. Also appreciated the space to store bikes. Communal areas were really nicely laid out giving the place a relaxed feel. Bathrooms were clean and had a collection of communal bathroom products to borrow which was really handy. Also liked that there were a couple of of private bathrooms as well as the big communal ones.

The bathrooms and common areas were clean, overall a super chill vibe. I was in the 6-person female room but for most of my stay (Sun-Wed) there were only three of us there, so it didn’t feel too crowded. Storage is mostly under the bed, there are small lockers in the rooms for valuables (if you plan to, bring a lock! i didn’t use them so i’m not sure if they lend locks too?) Staff were friendly and accommodating, I love that there’s someone at the front desk 24h. Overall felt like a nice and safe experience as a woman traveling solo, would def come back :)

Extremely friendly, attentive, and supportive staff who enforced hostel rules. I was super impressed with a tall slim male staff, he is simply the best in customer service! Breakfast was great and having all day coffee and tea mins blowing. The outdoor common area exceptional hangout for meet and greet. The kitchen nice and loved the multiple spacious refrigerators are so appreciated Bathrooms spacious and clean. Bed are comfortable with the lights, so classy. The hostel has so many points of interest: books, instruments, free food and item section, tv with movies, you are allowed to drink and smoke are a few. Love the announcement in the speaker of activities and heads up reminders..:

Everything here is great, and the sink in the room is really convenient. Most of the staff are friendly, happy, and helpful—except for an older cleaning lady. She never smiles and clearly doesn’t seem to like her job. Every day, when she cleans the room, she only wipes the sink and takes out the trash but never mops the floor. In contrast, a younger cleaning lady did a much better job—she cleaned thoroughly, covering every inch of the floor, and had good manners. Unlike the older cleaner, she made guests feel welcome. The older one, however, gave off the opposite vibe. Sometimes, even when I was still in my room, she would ask, “Are you leaving?” On the day I was actually checking out after a 10-day stay, I had already returned my key and just needed about 30 minutes to pack my luggage. However, she insisted that I move all my things immediately because she suddenly needed to mop the floor—something she had never bothered to do before. It was ridiculous. To make matters worse, she even threatened that I would have to pay extra if I didn’t comply. She acted as if she were the manager or owner of the hostel.

As a person who frequently stayed at hostels during my twenties, I was prepared to encounter what one might call an apocalypse, aka large groups of young adults speaking loudly, consuming alcohol, and partying. To my astonishment, this establishment was notably tranquil, and the majority of the guests were older adults exhibiting very respectful behavior. I acknowledge that this may be attributed to the time of year during which I visited, or merely a stroke of luck; however, I believe it is still worth highlighting. The room was well-maintained and reasonably priced within its bracket (I booked a private room/bunker bed). The overall property also maintained a clean appearance. Another pleasant surprise was the availability of beach towels for guests, along with shared supplies such as sunscreen, coolers, hats, and other beach-day amenities. The location of this hostel is exceptional! There is a grocery store literally across the street, and the entire block is populated with shops, liquor stores, and restaurants. All of this is within a five-minute walk to the beach and a twenty-minute walk to the Sunset View location. Should I return to the San Diego area, I will undoubtedly choose to stay here again. As a bonus tip, the coffee shop located immediately next to the hostel, Brew Wave Coffee, offers delightful coffee beverages and is staffed by the most friendly and helpful individuals!

The location is amazing, right in the centre of OB and steps away from the beach. Room was clean, bed was comfy. The common areas were nice to hang out in and I appreciated the yoga mats and beach towels you can borrow. Breakfast is very limited (waffles, oatmeal, fruit, coffee) and only from 7-9am but still nice to have.

Amazing experience! Would like to thank Kia at the FD for her fantastic customer service and friendliness during check in and throughout the stay. Clean facilities, adequate breakfast, interesting decor and comfortable lounge are among some of the highlights of this place. I'd definitely be coming back next time I'm in town.

The facilities were excellent! Very clean, well appointed. Really cool patio to hang out in and meet other guests. The staff was amazing...above and beyond helpful. The location cannot be beat. It's literally steps to everything, so you don't need a car if you are just staying in the area. The free coffee and light breakfast was much appreciated as fuel for all the hiking I did. The room was sufficiently large. The bed was comfortable, and I really appreciated that they provided bedding. Already looking forward to my next time there.

I have stayed at Samesun OB about 10-12 times over the past 8 years. Usually for 1-3 nights. I like all the staff. Brandon is an especially good manager and good man. Fernanda and Yolanda are always at it cleaning away and are nice people to say hello to when I stop by. The other managers do a good job of keeping a solid presence at the front desk and are often doing other staff chores. It is a good team overall. Guests are usually respectful and happy to be there. Rarely there are issues with guests be disrespectful or the like. breakfasts too add to the high rating
